Story

Chapter 1

Duke is the sousaphone player in the police band and one of the most recognizable officers in the City. With his crisp uniform, a row of shiny medals, and a golden sousaphone, he looks like a one-man parade wherever he goes.

Chapter 2

As a child, Duke lived by the railroad. The sharp whistle of incoming trains always made him frown, but the deep, resonant rumble as they passed brought him a strange comfort. That's when Duke fell in love with bass sounds.

Chapter 3

His sousaphone is big and heavy. Classmates used to joke that Duke looked like he was carrying a golden life preserver, but he didn't care. He knew that while the high notes catch the ear, it's the bass that supports the band. Later, when he became the police band's brass player, he still believed: in times of chaos, everyone needs a steady rhythm.

Chapter 4

The nickname "Tuba" was first coined by the dispatch center. During a city parade that suddenly changed routes, several intersections were blocked, and the radio was filled with reports about the ensuing chaos. Duke stood at the intersection and played the bass rhythm he'd worked out with the traffic team. Within minutes, the crowd was back in line, and order was restored. The dispatcher laughed over the channel, saying, "Let Tuba keep directing! He's more effective than the traffic lights."
